A Fairy's Love Song

by Zuberoa Aznárez

/

about

Traditional Celtic song from Scotland recorded with celtic harp, flute and vocals. It talks about a fairy who is in love with a mortal. She complains for being always alone and bored, pulling bracken on the hill. I selected some verses and mixed the lyrics in Gaelic with the English translation.

lyrics

Tha mi sgìth's mi leam fhìn,
Buain na rainich, buain na rainich
Tha mi sgìth's mi leam fhìn,
Buain na rainich daonnan

Why should I sit and sigh,
Pullin' bracken, Pullin' bracken.
Why should I sit and sigh,
On the hillside dreary?

Cùl an tomain, braigh an tomain,
Cùl an tomain, bhòidhich,
Cùl an tomain, braigh an tomain,
'H-uile là a'm' onar

Oh, but there is something wanting.
Oh, but I am weary.
Come by blythe and bonny laddie,
o’er the moor to cheer me.

Tha mi sgìth 's mi leam fhìn,
Buain na rainich, buain na rainich
Tha mi sgìth 's mi leam fhìn,
Buain na rainich daonnan

Why should I sit and sigh,
Pullin' bracken, Pullin' bracken.
Why should I sit and sigh,
All alone and dreary.
